Commentary, Tuesday Lake Region Game, Session 8
all right so this is a bit of an unstructured ramble but I want to get some thoughts out about that session, so.
PLEASE DO NOT READ THIS, MY PLAYERS. IT CONTAINS ACTIONABLE INTELLIGENCE YOU ARE NOT YET PRIVY TO.
Two deaths that night, one of a new player on her second session, one of a temp. I don't think either were due to my mishandling - to my mind, the party straightforwardly bungled by engaging a clearly superior force. They've also got a dearth of sensible missile options among them, especially since Clovis left. After the session, Valeucoux's player mentioned to me that he probably ought to have picked up a sling, and I tend to agree with his assessment. They also probably should be a little bit more willing and ready to break off a bad engagement. The mission was basically a net loss; they lost a lot more XP than they gained, and if they'd broken off before attacking the much larger force of firenewts, they could've won.
they've had some trouble getting treasure, especially magic items, and have sold the most recent one they found (profitably, but still.) Heading into winter, weather's going to present an issue for wilderness expeditions, so I should probably be ready for some urban adventuring in Tor. They've got a fair few enemies bearing down on them in Tor (wererat secret police from Thysrus, maybe the opium rings, Alfred,) so there should be plenty for them to be getting on with. I'm trying to increase the treasure values so they get paid out.
Overall, I've been enjoying the group and the game. A shame that Clovis's player left; but, ultimately, I'm just happy to have a good group of people to game with.
