Firenewts

MY PLAYERS DON'T READ THIS ONE YET THEY'RE NOT OFFICIALLY REAL THIS IS FOR THE INTERNET PEOPLE. Internet people, these are my favorite little guys.

Firenewts are the people of the Moon. They have been slaves of the dragons since human beings threw off the yoke. They dwell in twisting spires, or hide in hot-water caves. It is said that they were a peaceful and prosperous people before, and that they lived in the pools of boiling white mud on its surface like animals, and that they were created wholly artificially (perhaps not even a people at all.) They have been denied the powers of their own sorcery - the dragons have learned much since the Stone Age - but it is said that bands of insurgents in the twisting tunnels of Luna have tried to rekindle its secrets.

FIRENEWT: +1 Dexterity and -1 Strength, due to the lower gravity of the Moon. Firenewts, once per turn, may breathe fire for 1d6 damage. Their toes are long and flexible and may hold things like hands. Firenewts get +3 on saving throws versus fire-based attacks and take -1 point of damage per die - reversed for cold-based effect.

Firenewt thieves climb perfectly, and ordinary firenewts may climb as thieves. They swim at their full movement and breathe underwater, but take 1d6 damage per turn of immersion in cold water. They don't take damage from environmental heat except actual flame. Firenewts take damage from rain as if it were snow, and double damage from snow.

Firenewts are not affected as humans by dragon-fear - instead, firenewts suffer from awe in the presence of these creatures. A firenewt with less than 1 HD is mentally commanded by the dragon, and must do its bidding completely. A firenewt with less than 3 HD must save versus magic or be struck with catatonia (50%) or do its bidding as above (50%). Just like humans, firenewts with more than 3 HD fight at a penalty of -1 unless they save, and firenewts with more than 6 HD are immune.

They may be any class except Cleric, Paladin, or Druid, and advance to an unlimited level. First-level firenewts must select their weapon proficiencies from the following list, reflecting the stunted and warped technological development that has been imposed on them. Fighters (not Rangers) may make one free choice. Firenewt Magic-Users begin with Read Magic and one other spell only, chosen at random.
