Tuesday Group, Lake Region, Session 5, 13/5/2025

Only two people this week:

Nissa and Clovis set about investigating Alfred the Merchant. After being warned off him at a local bar, they finally corner the guy at the Silver Chain, a merchant's guild. Alfred denies everything and acts concerned while his bodyguard looms in a cloak. Finding nothing, the players set about patrolling the dockyard warehouses for trouble, and are ambushed by Alfred's bodyguard - an assassin 3! The assassin successfully Hides in Shadows, backstabs Clovis and knocks him out, rolls Complete Surprise (2 segments,) backstabs Nissa and knocks her out, then climbs out of the alley attack to escape the party's prodigious canine complement. Nissa and Clovis spend a week recovering, in which time more attacks occur.

The two characters prepare for a raid on Alfred's warehouse by whatever measure of stealth a Fighter and M-U can manage. Clovis purchases a suit of leather armor, then walks past the building to seek employment. The guards (two of them, plus a dog) brush him off. The next several nights, they stake the warehouse out, seeing that it's lit inside. Eventually, the light is out; Alfred's men are out to raid! They Sleep the exterior guards, slip inside, find a locked trapdoor into a large basement, and break it down. Below, there's six men - four with clubs, two with slings, waiting in ambush. The magic-user suppresses the slingers with her darts, the fighter slays the men with clubs and cuts down the fleeing slingers with arrows.

They toss the room, finding a large quantity of stolen goods and 250 SP, but attracting a gnoll and hyena from the nearby room - the hyena runs off after a failed overbear attempt, and the gnoll and fighter fight a short but desperate melee, which the fighter wins. They loot the body; a ring, silver with a Lapis Lazuli. Advancing up the corridor, they fight another group of men guarding fourteen filthy people locked in wooden cages for some unknown purpose. They win, free the people, and book it before the rest of the place comes down on them.

The night watch mark this event with disinterest. The players fail to identify the ring as magical and sell it for 500 GP, which they promptly spend carousing, meet some people, and get approached to smuggle goods to Thysrus. The Magic-User is attacked by Alfred's assassin again, and kills him. Life goes on in Tor.
